imho the best solution to the problem can be found at jstor.org. they basically scan each page as a picture format. no text encodings are used.

We are a fan of page images. The archival format seems to be tiff. Then there is the issue of a compressed version for access. My fav is DJVU, but it needs more work. fortunately the djvu guys are psyched to keep working on it, and there is a commercial version that works quite well.

I came across this thread of discussion. I have recently started looking at this bookmobile concept with a lot of interest after I read about it on the fastback binding website. The greatest problems that i am currently facing is formatting of the text in MS Word. I would really appreciate it if anyone out there could help me resolve problems in formatting/ flowing text from the Gutenberg site into MS Word.
